The Spanish company Fotowatio Renewable Ventures has been awarded the contract, from a total of 22 candidate companies, to construct a 20 MW photovoltaic plant some 25 kilometers from Canberra (Australia).
Once constructed, the plant will be the largest photovoltaic power station in Australia. It will cover a 50 hectare site and will use 83,000 photovoltaic panels. It is estimated that it will be capable of generating 37,000 MWh per year, enough to supply 4,400 homes.
The plant is the first of two solar energy projects that the government of Australian Capital Territory (ACT) has tendered under the ACT large-scale solar auction program. The second project is expected to be tendered next year.
FRV business model is based on the complete management of solar energy facilities: development, construction, financing, operation and maintenance of the projects using photovoltaic and thermosolar technologies.
With a long-term commitment and a management model based on control over and commitment to the processes in which it participates, FRV’s aim is to continue being a leading company within the solar industry worldwide.
FRV is a founding member of the Spanish Photovoltaic Association and is part of its management body. It is also a member of the management board of Protermosolar. In the United States, FRV is a member of Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA). Through its participation in these industry groups, the company is strongly committed to the long-term adoption of solar energy throughout the world.
