American corporates are expanding their portfolios via European base: Spain. Despite the country having a distinctly unattractive unemployment rate, the state still provides an alluring entrepreneurial business climate.
Spain has almost 700 US companies operating within its borders, with stock investments totalling $100billion. When we start to dig a little deeper, it's easy to see why America has placed its faith in the Spanish market. The country boasts one of the largest financial institutions in the eurozone (Santander), one of the largest consumer markets in Europe (47 million) and labour costs that are decidedly below average for the economic bloc.
This swell of new funds is starting to make waves with Spain's digital startups, turning the country into what I consider to be one of the most fertile for investors. A number of startups have already attracted the gaze of US corporate Goliaths, who are keen to access new talent, new ideas and a new approach to technology.
