Mobilizing investments in energy efficiency and renewable energy is key to Europe's energy transition. The European Commission is trying to establish two different facilities that can, through quick addition funds and other forms of assistance, support cities, communities and islands to prepare investments in sustainable energy.
Installation of the European Islands
European islands must reduce their dependence on energy imports by making better use of their own renewable energy sources and adopting more modern, socially inclusive and innovative energy systems.
The objective of the European Islands Facility is to facilitate greater use of finance in energy transition investments by public authorities and increase the capacity of public authorities to develop investment projects.
European installation of the city
Cities and communities are leaders in economic, social and environmental transformation. By adopting ambitious sustainable energy and climate action plans, they have committed and often go beyond the national and European climate and sustainable energy goals. However, very few of them manage to develop and expand mature investment packages.
The objective of the European City Facility is to get a large number of cities and communities to start the process of mobilizing investments in sustainable energy through the realization of investment concepts.
Call for proposals for projects within the work program Safe, clean and efficient energy of Horizon 2020:
"LC-SC3-EE-17-2019: installation of European City - European cities as key innovation centers to unlock finances for energy efficiency" and
"LC-SC3-EN-8-2019: Ease of the European Islands - Unlock funding for energy transitions and islands of support to develop investment concepts".
They will be opened during the summer, with a deadline of February 5, 2019
